Will Jay-Z actually represent clients of his newly built sports agency Roc Nation Sports in contract negotiations?

Ron Berkowitz, a spokesman for Roc Nation Sports, confirmed to ESPN.com that, as of this week, Jay-Z is now licensed to work as an NBA agent. Juan Perez, president of Roc Nation Sports, also is now certified with the National Basketball Players Association.

The news was first reported by the Sports Business Journal.

What's not clear is how soon Jay-Z actually can represent players. A source close to the situation said that, as of Wednesday, the hip-hop mogul had not sold his small share (less than 1 percent) of the Brooklyn Nets.

Industry speculation is Jay-Z might be able to sign players as long as he agrees to pass off his share of the Nets in the near future. Owners of NBA teams cannot represent players.

The Los Angeles Clippers and Boston Celtics re-opened trade talks Wednesday and have quickly made progress toward separate transactions that ultimately would send both Celtics star forward Kevin Garnett and coach Doc Rivers to Los Angeles, according to sources close to the process.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Clippers, despite taking another break from the discussions Wednesday night so owner Donald Sterling could meet face-to-face with Rivers' fellow coaching candidate Brian Shaw, have relented on their previous unwillingness to surrender only one first-round pick to the Celtics to convince Boston to let Rivers out of the final three years, $21 million on his coaching contract.

One source close to the process expressed optimism the sides would reach an agreement in principle by Thursday on the two deals involving Garnett and Rivers, which the Clippers believe will all but cement the signature of star guard Chris Paul when Paul becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

NEW YORK -- Hanley Ramirez capped a six-hit day with a pair of RBI singles, Yasiel Puig homered to complete a dazzling debut in New York and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Yankees 6-0 Wednesday for a split of their day-night doubleheader.

The Dodgers salvaged manager Don Mattingly's return to the Bronx after a 6-4 loss in the opener.

Chris Capuano (2-5) pitched three-hit ball for six innings in his comeback from the disabled list. The Dodgers rebounded from a sloppy loss to former teammate Hiroki Kuroda (7-5) in a matchup between injury-ravaged teams with $200 million payrolls.

In the first matchup between the teams in New York since the Dodgers clinched the 1981 World Series title with a Game 6 victory at old Yankee Stadium, Ichiro Suzuki homered, drove in three runs and made a spectacular catch on the warning track for the Yankees.

New York got help from reliever Ronald Belisario's two errors on the same play in a three-run seventh.

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Slumping Josh Hamilton has been dropped to seventh in the Angels lineup by manager Mike Scioscia for Wednesday night's game against Seattle.

The All-Star right fielder and 2010 AL MVP entered the game batting .213 with 10 homers and 24 RBIs in 69 games, and had struck out 73 times in 268 at-bats while going 7-for-56 with runners in scoring position.

On Tuesday night, Hamilton grounded into double plays his first three times up and struck out twice -- just the second time in 806 major league games that he grounded into more than one double play.

Scioscia said before the game that Hamilton's showing on Tuesday was only part of the reason for the change in the batting order. Another was that the Angels were facing a left-hander -- Joe Saunders -- although Hamilton had four hits in nine previous at-bats with a home run against the former Angels pitcher.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The U.S. Naval Academy on Wednesday charged three midshipmen -- all current or former football players -- with sexually assaulting a female student at an off-campus house in Annapolis more than a year ago.

The academy said in a news release that the male midshipmen are being charged with two violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. One charge involves rape, sexual assault or other sexual misconduct. The other is for making a false official statement.

The academy did not identify the three male students, and it was not immediately clear if they have an attorney.

Two of the students were football players this past season, but they are not on the team anymore. Another is still on the team, but he has been suspended pending the outcome of the case.

Trade talks between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers are back on, sources confirmed to ESPN.com on Wednesday.

Talks between the teams had broken down Tuesday, but that changed after Celtics coach Doc Rivers and president of basketball operations Danny Ainge met Wednesday evening with the hopes of settling the coach's future with the club, sources told ESPN.

Ainge always has made it clear to Rivers that the team's preference is for him to remain as coach, even after negotiations to allow him to leave for the Clippers broke down on Tuesday morning. However, sources with knowledge of Rivers' thinking say the coach remains unsure about remaining in Boston if the team is headed for a rebuilding process.

DETROIT -- Chris Davis sent a pitch to opposite field over the left-field fence and pulled another one deep into the right-field seats.

His day gave him a major-league leading 26 homers and helped the Baltimore Orioles beat the Detroit Tigers 13-3 Wednesday.

Davis, who had a two-run homer in Baltimore's six-run fourth inning, hit his second two-run shot in the ninth off embattled reliever Jose Valverde.

"It split right into my barrel," Davis said.

Baltimore improved to a season-high 11 games over .500 by winning its seventh series, including two against the AL Central-leading Tigers, in a month to prevent AL-leading Boston from building a big lead in the East.

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass. -- Embroiled in the investigation of the shooting death of a man near his Massachusetts home this week, New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez also is the subject of a civil lawsuit alleging he shot a Connecticut man in February, according to court records.

The body of a man, identified Wednesday as 27-year-old Odin Lloyd, was found Monday evening about a mile from Hernandez's sprawling house in an upscale subdivision. Lloyd was shot in the head, sources told ABC News. His body was discovered in a clearing near John Dietsch Boulevard not far from a vehicle that had been rented by Hernandez, the sources said.

Police said Wednesday that Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez's girlfriend, and that authorities are trying to reach that woman because they are concerned about her safety.

At least seven state troopers on Wednesday searched both sides of a road just off the street where Hernandez lives. The officers used thin poles to pull back plants and search through undergrowth along the road, two days after a body was found about a mile away.

Darrelle Revis was able to secure the No. 24 when he was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but it didn't come cheap.

A well-placed source told Paul Lukas, who writes Uni Watch for ESPN.com, that Revis paid safety Mark Barron $50,000 to get the No. 24 from the second-year safety.

The Tuesday night interview between Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling and Byron Scott went very well, according to sources with knowledge of the meeting.

Sterling will meet with Brian Shaw on Wednesday. He met with the Clippers' other coaching candidate, Lionel Hollins, last week.

A decision could be made as soon as Friday, or Sterling may take the entire weekend to mull over his choices, sources said.

Until the Clippers name a coach, there remains an outside chance that they rekindle talks with Boston about Doc Rivers. But for now, the Clippers are moving on as though any potential transaction with the Celtics is dead.
