Wenger focused on building golden generation

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger claims he is building a 'generation of stars' who will be capable of matching the very best in the Premier League.

Wenger has identified Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kieran Gibbs as the pioneers amid a pool of talent that he believes will eventually have the class to overcome the Premier League's big spenders.

Arsenal have started the season in promising fashion with only limited contributions from Oxlade-Chamberlain and no input from a fit again Wilshere, yet Wenger suggests that progress is a sign of the quality within his squad.

"We have a generation of players who are similar to style of the Spanish national team," says Wenger, in quotes appearing in several Sunday newspapers. "Wilshere, Chamberlain and Gibbs are all in that category. We also have some young players coming through who are similar and we will see this more and more like them because the world are trying to produce more players like this now.

"It is not a coincidence that Spain have a generation of highly technical players as this is down to the way they are educated. The concentration is on technique and that is something we are trying to replicate here with our young players.

"This is part of the reason why I believe we have the most complete squad for some years. We have several options at centre-back and even more in midfield where Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Emmanuel Frimpong, Francis Coquelin and Tomas Rosicky are not playing at this moment. In terms of quality and numbers in midfield, we have so many options."
