Source: Fox, Del Rio to be fined for ref abuse

Posted by on

The NFL plans to fine Denver Broncos coach John Fox and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio approximately $20,000 apiece for the way they publicly criticized officials in last Monday night's game against the Atlanta Falcons, according to a league source.

The NFL even called the Georgia Dome at halftime on Monday night to get the message to Fox and Del Rio to tone down their act in the second half, the source said.

Yet as of Sunday morning, the league still had not notified the Broncos of any fines for their coaches.

And while the league has not announced or confirmed any of these fines, it has sent a clear and unmistakable message that the type of behavior seen around replacement referees will not be tolerated.

But forcing a change to the outlook of coaches may be easier said than done.

"I don't care what the league fines me, these (replacement) refs are terrible," one NFL head coach said last week.
